buncher harvesting

Buncher Harvester
The feller buncher can be disassembled and flown from any location in 7-8 pieces and reassembled on the hillside. This allows access to areas previously considered inaccessible.
Buncher Harvester
Success has been achieved on slopes over 50%. A combination of approaches are available for ‘forwarding’ the wood to the processor machine which drastically increases the efficiency of the Aircrane.
Bunched Logs
With mechanized processing the logs in harvest area are neatly arranged. Logs are weighed and bunched to reach an efficient target weight.

No Access? – No Problem!
Put the unreachable within reach.

The feller buncher can be located into sites previously considered inaccessible and reassembled on the hillside.

The Buncher Harvester

The buncher harvester is a TK 1162 tilting feller buncher with a Waratah 624 head.

This TK 1162 machine can be dismantled into seven pieces and flown onto the hill with one of Canadian Air-Cranes - Sikorsky S64 model E Aircrane.

Using an efficient re-assembly team of Finning mechanics, the TK 1162 can be operational by the end of the same day.

To fly the TK 1162 machine to the setting isn’t the only option. Utilizing a small trail the buncher can “walk” its way to the setting and begin harvesting. These trails can be fully rehabilitated after use.

Benefits of hillside processing

Feller Bunching and processing the wood on the hill has many benefits including...

- tree length harvesting,
- predetermined lengths,
- minimal debris for water drops,
- efficient use of capital employed,
- loading phases on road drops
- and a safer working environment at the landing.

Success on the hill

Bringing the feller buncher into the harvest area allows logs to be neatly arranged and bunched to reach an efficient target weight for the Air-Crane.

Mechanical success has been achieved on slopes over 50% through a combination of approaches.

In some cases, more than one type of machine has been used to carry out the individual phases of the falling, processing and bunching phases.

In other cases, conventional hand falling has extended the "bunchable" area around the perimeters of the setting.
